Angiosperms or flowering plants are autotrophs. They are organisms that can produce its own food using light, water, carbon dioxide or other chemicals. Because they produce their own food, they are also called producers. Angiosperm uses a process called photosynthesis to make their own food. In the process of photosynthesis, angiosperms use the energy of sunlight to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen. Glucose is a type of sugar that gives this plant energy. The leaves of angiosperms help absorb light and help carry out photosynthesis. The leaves have thin flattened sections called blades that help absorb sunlight. Carbon dioxide (CO2) enters through the stomata of the leaves. The stomata are openings in the underside of a leaf that allows carbon dioxide and oxygen to diffuse into and out of the leaf. Water (H2O) is absorbed by the roots of the plant and oxygen (O2) is given off into the air.
